We all experience change

What is Therapy for a Life Event?

Have you ever experienced change? Of course, that is a trick question because it’s a basic part of all of our lives. I am here to tell you that everyone experiences life changes!

The very fact you are alive means you experience changes and transitions. This also means that you can experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, or even trauma in the wake of a life change of any scale. This is completely normal. All humans adapt and react to life events differently.

Usually symptoms from big changes begin right after your life event or change. Sometimes you may even get symptoms from what you would call a positive life event. Change is highly impactful on all of us, good or bad, and can cause any kind of reaction you might be able to think of.

The important thing to remember is to get treatment for it, or more severe depression and anxiety can pop up if left unaddressed. You may have long bouts of sadness, worry, negative self talk, or withdrawing from your usual favorite activities among other symptoms.

If you find these issues are present and are stopping you from being able to live your life the way you want, it is time to seek teletherapy services.

How are Life Changes Treated?

Life changes are treated very similarly to anxiety and trauma in online teletherapy. You will learn about your brain and how/why it reacted to a specific event the way it did. life change counseling focuses primarily on the big problem that you tell me about.

Once you have named the problem and explored your reaction to it, then you can begin the steps to managing it. You will learn some coping skills, make a plan, and test that plan in reality.

The main idea behind treating life changes is that you are experimenting with what works and what may not work. Either way, the pursuit of answers behind your emotions is a great place to start.
